3/22/2016 The Art of Crafting Pens“Writing is the Painting of the Voice” - Voltaire We would like to give a warm welcome to our new artist Mark Olney. Some of you may already know the work that Mark does. Not only is he a talented Cabinet Maker here at Vaughn’s Cabinets, but he’s also an incredible wood turner! We love Made in Oklahoma (MIO) items, and if you’ve been keeping up with our recent blogs you’ve probably noticed that MIO products are becoming a BIG hit here at Floorplan! We now have seven artists total that make and or customize MIO products. We are very excited to offer these unique items in our Holdenville showroom. We now carry items such as local honey, beeswax candles, beauty products, golf club gadgets, hair bows, jewelry and customized pens! We are pumped that we are bringing forth many artists with such incredible talents! Back to Mark Olney’s pens…I get a little excited about our Oklahoma products and tend to get off topic. J Mark makes custom pens on the side of his full time job here at Vaughn’s Cabinets. He specializes in making his pens from various woods and even acrylic! They are absolutely beautiful! You will not be disappointed! Mark mentioned on his Facebook page under “Mark Olney’s Custom Pens and Pencils” that he will create pens from heirloom pieces! He’s just that creative! Mark’s pens are reasonably priced for the work that goes into each of his items! You can easily purchase them for a gift and your recipient will fall in love! Check out Mark's step-by-step pen-making process below!Personally, one of my favorites is the “Slimline Bethlehem Olivewood.” This pen has its own unique story behind it. You can read more about this wood in the photo below. You can purchase Mark’s pens at Floorplan! Starting at $20. What a special gift these pens can be for anyone on your shopping list! (teacher, lawyer, pastor, doctor, writer, etc.) Come by and see us at Floorplan! Take a look at some of Mark's recent work...- Brittain
3/16/2016 Mythbusters!![]() Selecting paint colors, tile, stains, finish techniques...that stuff is all stressful...but... COUNTERTOPS?! Countertops can be difficult to select for a number of reasons...so let Vaughn's Cabinets help you to debunk some of those myths you might have heard along the way! Granite
"Granite is one of the hardest stones in the world and is highly resistant to scratching in ordinary use. A knife blade will not scratch granite. It can be scratched by another piece of granite or with specially sharpened tools designed to work with granite like tungsten and diamond blades." [Source]
Yes...that is an extreme case...but what would blogging be without a little drama?
Quartz
So then...what's best? After looking at all the pros and cons of quartz vs. granite...it's pretty even across the board. It all just depends on your own style!
3/7/2016 Shop Floorplan...near & far!
We're bringing a unique shopping experience to Holdenville! We've scoured the state for talented makers, and we're bringing their products to Floorplan. Now you can shop state-wide makers all from Floorplan! Find unique, made in Oklahoma items from makers across the state right here in Holdenville. And the best part is...all of the items you see here are $32 or less! Introducing...BeeLoved Naturals!A note from the maker: BeeLoved is passionate about creating all natural, affordable health and beauty products. We use only 100% pure essential oils in our products and are based in North Edmond, Oklahoma. As a mother of girls with sensitive skin and eczema, I was always looking for alternative to store bought lotions and steroid creams. When I stumbled upon my first lotion bar it was love at first touch! My daughter's eczema had never been under control before. I just knew I had to share this product. From there, BeeLoved grew and expanded to other all natural products. Check out some product photos below, and stop in to grab a gift set for yourself and a friend! Introducing...Pioneer Candles!A note from the maker: Our beeswax is locally sourced from our Oklahoma neighbors! We clean and filter the wax in-house and handcraft our candles in small batches. Oklahoma beeswax is a gorgeous, soft medium yellow with a velvety honey scent. We are fortunate to have the vast Oklahoma grasslands and resilient prairie flowers to support our Oklahoma bees. We take our commitment to the environment very seriously. We use only 100% Post Consumer Waste and "Made in the USA" packaging and paper goods. Also, our workshop utilizes only emissions-free wind generated electricity. Our beeswax is always- and only locally-sourced to ensure a high quality, organically produced, eco-friendly candle. We use only the cappings, which is the responsible way to harvest wax from the hives. Behind our workshop, we have a bee garden filled with all the flowers and plants honeybees like best! It's a pleasure to have our hive friends stop by everyday and enjoy the garden! Often, when we are handcrafting candles, the bees will fly right in the backdoor, lured by the scent of honey! We always carefully take them back out to the garden, one by one! Check out some product photos below, and stop in to grab a gift set for yourself and a friend!
2/23/2016 What's holding you back?![]() We all have hopes and dreams for our lives...and that also includes the space(s) we call home. We strive to have comfortable, clean and well-decorated (see how I snuck that in there?) homes that reflect our style and values. It's likely that you have BIG PLANS for your home. Standing in line at Lowe's or Home Depot you're taunted with beautiful magazines showcasing gorgeous homes, watching HGTV you're sold on the idea that DIY is the best way to go, and you look up the street and see your neighbor doing upgrades and you find yourself in a Keeping Up With the Jones' situation... ...SO WHAT DO YOU DO?! You do you! Your home is yours...no one else's! Yes...do that remodel...but do it for YOU! There's no time like the present, folks! Let us help you make your space reflect your personality (on your budget)! Hasta luego!
-Parker Thinking about a kitchen or bathroom remodel? Did you know you can salvage a great deal of what you already have in place? That's right! We can actually give your pre-existing solid wood cabinets a face lift! (and save you some money, too!) Last week we finished up this kitchen remodel...complete with NEW granite and tumbled marble, NEW appliances and OLD cabinets! ...wait what? You read that right...these cabinets are original to the home; however, they might as well be brand new after the face lift we gave them. In addition to re-finishing the pre-existing cabinets, we also added trim and new hardware to give a much needed update to the space. Additionally, the clients opted to increase the number of can lights in the kitchen...a great decision that gives the illusion of more space! And while we're talking about remodels...have you ever had the wild and crazy dream of having a multi-colored kitchen? DREAM NO MORE! We just finished up the job below this morning, and we couldn't be more pleased with the end-result. Similar to the previous job, the client had pre-existing solid wood cabinets that were in great shape...so why start from scratch? Rather than tearing out the old cabinets, we painted over the old brown stain and followed that up with a light glaze. Come in to the showroom or visit our website and let us help you dream up your next remodel!
-Parker 2/9/2016 Mix & MatchOne of our favorite things to do here in the showroom is to assist clients with selecting their door styles, finish options and countertops. Did you know we have an entire Samples section ready for you to rummage through? We'll even loan you individual samples to take home so that you can take your time and see it in your own space. Brittain and I put together three options below...what's your favorite? ![]() Hey, it’s Britt again! I’m excited to be blogging this particular day, because I’m going to talk about one of my favorite holidays…Valentine’s Day! I love Valentine’s Day for many reasons. I love the colors, the hearts, the sweets and the endless gifts you receive from your loved ones. I fell in love with Valentine’s Day as a small child. My favorite memory of Valentine’s Day was receiving roses, a small box of chocolates and a small plush bear at school. My grandparents always made sure to send me a Valentine every year. Along with my parents, my sister and I always had a bouquet of roses and candy waiting for us at home after school. Valentine’s Day just made me feel extra special. As I became older I started baking with my grandma. We would make Valentine sugar cookies every year! We would collect various heart cookie cutters just for V-Day and bake away. Now that I am older I cherish all those little moments I had as a young child. There is always that one holiday or special event that makes you feel warm and happy. For me it is Valentine’s Day. Pictured below you will see an item or two that may make you reminisce. For me the vintage V-Day card and the heart cookie cutter bring many memories to my mind. P.S. the items pictured in this blog are available for sale at Floorplan. Shop at our store and make your loved one or home feel special. We have also made several Valentine’s banners/garlands with various styles to suit your style, including vintage letters, crocheted hearts and burlap! Check out our slideshow below to see more Valentine's Day items in stock! Love,
Britt 1/20/2016 Let's Talk Upholstery
Well, most people can probably level with me on this issue (money...or lack thereof); however, sometimes the smallest change in a room can have a tremendous impact on the overall look and feel of an entire home! Don't be duped by mainstream television ... you can do a lot with a little! Have you ever considered re-upholstery? Let's face it...our society is incredibly wasteful. When something breaks, we've been conditioned to march ourselves right down to the store (or go online...even worse...instant gratification!) and buy a new one; a few hours later the old one is out on the curb or in the trash. But what if that something is an heirloom? What if that something is made of solid wood and really just needs some TLC? What if you're just plain tired of buying new somethings constantly? So much can be said for a fresh coat of paint in any space, but the same can be said for fabrics. Whether you love more traditional fabrics, real leather, or even vinyl (I'll hop on the retro wagon any day of the week), you can completely alter the look and feel of any space with new fabric...and it doesn't have to be expensive! At Vaughn's Cabinets, we've been in the upholstery business for years now. We work with the best suppliers in the region to provide beautiful and durable materials for all your upholstery needs. We take great care to bring your heirlooms back to their original gusto! So now what? Stop by the shop Monday - Thursday (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) to talk upholstery with us in person. See you soon!
